The beauty of Tansley Teak reclaimed teak garden furniture is that it requires little or no maintenance to keep it looking stunning year after year.
Your furniture will usually be delivered in either ‘fine sanded’ or ‘rustic brushed’ finish. This is a finish in itself and no further treatment, i.e. oil or woodstain is required; nor is it recommended. Your reclaimed teak furniture has a high natural oil content making it practically impervious to the effects of even the most unpredictable of our British weather. We recommend that you resist the urge to apply teak oil to your reclaimed teak - it certainly doesn’t need it and this will only serve to spoil the appearance.
Your furniture will ‘silver’ naturally over time. If you wish to bring back the honey colour you can simply sand your furniture (always with the grain) using a fine grade (180+) sanding pad. If it’s been a while and your table requires a deeper sanding then we recommend you use a 100 grit sanding pad - followed by the finer grit to polish the table off (again, always with the grain). Alternatively, you can sand your furniture lightly but very regularly, to achieve the sought after ‘shiny silver’ finish which is the traditional finish for very high quality teak.
If you do decide to apply a further finish to your teak garden furniture, then we recommend the Osmo range of oil treatments. They’re of excellent quality and available in many colours. We offer an oiling service on all our products. Any oil treatment you apply to Tansley Teak garden furniture should be done for cosmetic purpose only. No oil treatment is needed to prolong the life of your furniture as it will be perfectly fine on it’s own. Some of these timbers are over 200 years old already and in absolutely perfect condition!
