Beautiful, Durable Teak
Oil rich, durable and stunningly beautiful. Teak wood is the first and only choice for garden furniture. Teak is one of the few woods that actually produces it's own oil making it resistant to the damaging effects of water. Once established, a teak tree is virtually indestructible in the forest and highly resistant to infestations, disease and even fire.
Since the middle ages Teak has been used in shipbuilding due to its water resistance & durability. Many 17th century South East Asian buildings still have their teak construction in place which gives you an idea of its durability.
Ethical, Sustainable Teak
At Tansley Teak we only use virgin timbers from the Perhutani plantation of Java. This vast Indonesian government managed plantation was introduced by the Dutch over 200 years ago and not only provides outstanding quality teak but also employment and security for 100,000s of local people.
In addition to this we are always seeking to make the most of every tree. The (previously burned) roots are used to create stunning benches, chairs and tables - and any off cuts are now made in to decking tiles (a new range of ours for 2010 available soon).
We also have a very successful range of recycled teak furniture. These 200 year old timbers, reclaimed from buildings and shipwrecks make some of the finest, heaviest furniture on the market - at any price!
